4 Boutique Decor Shops in Toronto Worth Visiting

We can all appreciate a trip to HomeSense, we get it. But there’s a reason many designers don’t rely on sourcing from there. It’s the feeling of going into a big box store and seeing the same thing over and over again. And that can be so discouraging when you're trying to find something unique for your home. That's why we've put together a list of 4 boutique home decor stores in Toronto that carry one-of-a-kind items that you won't find anywhere else. Here are our favourites:

  1. VdeV - Dundas St. W, Toronto

Tucked away in a quaint side street, VdeV is easy to miss but definitely worth seeking out. This home decor and furniture store has a vintage feeling and carries a range of pieces from boho to industrial that are both stylish and unique. We were in complete awe with the wide variety of kitchenware, solid prices on light fixtures, and stunning high-end furniture.

We loved how each section of the store was perfectly staged and everywhere you turned there was always something new to discover. So if you’re in the market for any new home accessories, VdeV is definitely the place to go.

WE’RE GOING BACK FOR:

  • Quality tableware and accessories for kitchens with open shelving.

2. Montana Labelle - Dupont St., Toronto

We’ve been fangirling over her Instagram for a while, so to say we were excited to go to this store is an understatement. And it did not disappoint. The moment we walked in, we knew we were in a space home to a creative designer and the pictures are here to prove it.

Whether you’re looking for a statement vintage pot to display your plants or a contemporary catchall for your keys, they have something for everyone. And because they believe that mixing the vintage with the contemporary creates something timeless, you can rest assured that their pieces will stand the test of time.

On that note, make sure you pay Montana Labelle a visit. We can promise you won’t be disappointed.

WE’RE GOING BACK FOR:

  • Vintage pots and catchalls for creating the perfect coffee table moment.

3. Rose City Goods - Dundas St. W, Toronto

Rose City Goods had our attention the second we walked in. We were welcomed with an overwhelming yet satisfying abundance of colour that screamed 80s dance party. The owner is an aficionado of all things home decor, and the store is a true reflection of that.

We were particularly drawn to the wall of unique pots on the cutest retro shelves that she handmade herself. Oh, and in case you were wondering, the sign is true, it does smell good really good in there.

Rugs, throws, planters, accessories and one-of-a-kind swirl candles also work together to complete the retro vibe. We were truly impressed by the selection of Canadian-made products and the overall atmosphere of the store. We highly recommend you check it out!

WE’RE GOING BACK FOR:
- Canadian-crafted accessories for spaces that need a little pop of colour.

3. Thirty Six Knots - Yonge St., Toronto

At Thirty Six Knots, you'll find a solid selection of modern rugs, lighting, home decor and more. The store is divided into two sections - a cafe and a decor shop… Coffee, anyone? The back of the store features a wall of rugs with an amazing catalogue of options to choose from.

They have candles, lamps, vases, pillows, and so much more - including a funny framed picture of a random man in every room. Unfortunately, we forgot to take a picture of it, so you’ll have to go check it out to see for yourself. We had a good laugh!

Their rugs, however, are the real show stoppers, ranging from simple accents to spectacular showpieces. All of them are handmade and curated in collaboration with interior designers, graphic designers and weavers in India. If you’re in need of a new rug to work with a specific style in your home, Thirty Six Knots is the place.

WE’RE GOING BACK FOR:

  • Rugs, rugs, rugs!

Stop settling for basic decor from big box stores that lack intention. These Toronto boutiques offer one-of-a-kind pieces that will give your home personality and come with a beautiful story.

So next time you're in need of some new home accessories, make a point to check out these independent shops. You’ll be decorating with intention while supporting local artists and creators. It’s a win-win!
